This is a painting I created full of color and energy. I love its texture, diversity, and vibrance. Does this time of year feel festive or inspiring for you too?

Cheers to our wonderful host, Michelino! He sure knows how to make our trip a spectacular one! Thank you!

From Florence to the countryside of Tuscany, we saw so much beauty and experienced wonderful sights, art, and painting inspiration! The gelato is a wonderful treat and so is the fresh pasta, so many delectable meals, and, of course, the Dievole wine! It is hard to leave this kind of life, but it is always great to be HOME again!

Until next time, Italy!!!

At every turn there is something else to draw and paint. How can that be?! The landscapes are unbelievable and everything is so very old.

These photos capture some of the joy and connection that unfolded during our travel workshop in Tuscany. Our Il Chiostro host, Michelino, is a wonderful singer who serenaded us more than once. His music added such heart to the experience.

There were smiles all around as we painted, shared stories, and encouraged one another. The creative energy in the studio was full of laughter, color, and friendship. Every photo holds a little spark of that Tuscan magic.

Magical moments from the trip ✨

Dried herbs hanging in the archway of a traditional leather school in Florence meant to mask the street smells, now adding charm to the doorway.

My laundry line makes an appearance again (packing light has its perks!), and our shared studio space is just steps away filled with focus, laughter, and art talk.
Everywhere you turn, there’s history. Ancient stone stairs, an old well covered in greenery, even the hollow trunk of a centuries-old tree.

This is Nora, Michele, and me at the Siena Campo, the famous square where the Palio takes place each summer. The Palio is a centuries-old bareback horse race held twice a year, in July and August, and sometimes for special occasions. Ten riders, each representing a different district of Siena, race through the square in a thrilling burst of tradition and energy.

Standing there, it’s easy to imagine the excitement and history that fill this space. Even without the race, the Campo has its own magic, sunlight, color, and the feeling of being surrounded by stories that have been unfolding for hundreds of years.

On our first evening in Florence, we wandered through the city when everything was closed and still it felt almost like walking through a painting. By morning, the streets had come alive in that unmistakable Florentine way!

Later, in Siena, I spent time inside the Duomo, taking in the intricate marble floors, the grand architecture, and the exquisite trompe l’oeil paintings that draw your eye into imagined spaces. Every corner of the church feels like an artwork in itself.

We Made It to Tuscany!

When you think of Tuscany, you probably think of wine, and you’d be right! Our group had the joy of visiting the beautiful vineyards of Dievole Winery and Vineyard in the Chianti region. Dievole produces exquisite wines and olive oils, which we enjoyed each evening. Every meal felt like a celebration for the senses, with delicious flavors, breathtaking views, and endless inspiration.

We spent our days painting and sketching on the grounds, surrounded Mary Archambaultncient olive trees, anTeresa Brunsonover the vines. I ePatricia Hafkemeyersketchbook with vineyard Terry Holmanlater become paintings. AlthougMichele Montalbanoa Nora McCloskeyainter, these views are changing my mMariAnn Seyboldat sunrise! Look at those grapes!

Our group photo was taken in the charming walled town of Monteriggioni, known as the “Crown on the Hill.” It’s the kind of place where every corner begs to be drawn, painted, or admired (and yes, there’s some great shopping too).
