"Goldfish of the Sea" - watercolor, colored pencils, ink

This painting is 1 of 4 in a series I painted of a goldfish pottery figurine. I love the gestural fins and tails. The figurine is gray, so making up these colors was exciting!

You can find all 4 paintings hanging in the Workhouse Arts Center, Studio 509, and watch the progression.

My sister, Nora of @bloomingartiststudio, came to town to teach a Mosaic Workshop in my home studio, and what a fun and creative weekend it was!
We made expressive mosaic faces using tiles, glass, beads, and even some dishes we got to break. Here we are at the start, surrounded by all the colorful bits and pieces, as we start to bring our ideas to life. I'll post the results soon.

Images from my sketchbooks:
Drawing to Stay Calm- When our vehicle broke down on the way to the airport in Brazil, I felt a sense of panic. As I drew the scene, I felt so much better. We even made it to the airport on time!
A Wet Day in Regensberg- Although it was a cold and wet day, we still had a great day touring. No bad weather, only bad clothes! We had the right clothes.
Ray and Dorothy in their New Zealand Home- I drew the living room of our agritourism hosts, and then they sat down to read, so I just kept going!

Currently on display at Workhouse Arts Center, Gallery Five.

Capers, watercolor on canvas, 10x10

I had no idea this is what capers looked like while growing until I spotted them along a path in Italy, thanks to a tip from Sherry! They were growing wild and beautiful. Sketching and painting discoveries like this in my travel journal is such a joy, but I also love bringing those moments back into my studio to create finished pieces to share with the world.
