AMA Waterways River Cruise in Colombia!

December 2–9, 2026

How would you like to join me on an unforgettable travel workshop—a river cruise through the vibrant heart of Colombia, South America on an AMA Waterways River Cruise?

We’ll be surrounded by rich culture, bold colors, beautiful architecture, lush landscapes, and warm, welcoming people. And while we soak it all in, I’ll guide you through a series of creative sketching sessions designed to make the most of your experience. Only 10 students will be in the workshop and there are a few spots still available.

Here’s what you’ll learn onboard and along the way:
🎒 How to decide what materials you really need for a day of sketching—light, portable, and fun!
✏️ Drawing techniques that help you loosen up, stay present, and enjoy the process (no pressure here!)
📖 How to quickly capture a special memory of the day—so each time you return to that page, the feeling comes right back
🎨 How to take your sketchbook ideas and turn them into larger paintings.
💡 And plenty more creative inspiration, tips, and encouragement along the way!

Whether you’re an experienced artist or just getting started, this workshop is about immersing yourself in the moment, connecting with fellow creatives, and building a visual journal you’ll treasure forever.

This is my niece’s wedding bouquet. It started as a watercolor until I needed to add some of my gelli print papers! That was fun!

More collages. I started with previous paintings that were no longer working for me. I brought them back to life with gelli print papers and ink and pencil.

Come visit me at @workhousearts to see more work.

Another collage using my gelli print papers. I am enjoying this ... and making a fun mess, too.

Wind whipping along the coastline, singers and dancers filling the street with energy, and the stadium spread out below Signal Hill. Bright, firework-like plants and paint building up in our sketchbooks at The Winchester. We stand ready to jump, watching the clouds roll in and wondering if we’ll actually make it.

A tunnel through the mountain, the South African coastline stretching wide, and Table Mountain holding it all steady behind us. A sculpture honoring lives long unrecognized and the calm courtyard at The Winchester invite a quieter kind of attention. Clouds settle over Signal Hill and shift the plan, a gentle reminder that not everything needs to unfold on cue.

At Kirstenbosch Gardens, we saw the amazing flowers of South Africa, with Table Mountain as our backdrop. The National flower is Protea, and I had no idea there were so many different varieties! The protea inspired this stamp in my sketchbook.

After hearing about this industry created to help impoverished women make a living, I had to visit! About 14 women gather used tea bags from all over the world, process them and create beautiful art like these pics. It was inspiring to watch them work. I bought many gifts while I was there and you can order some online too! https://tbagdesigns.co.za/

In the park between our hotel and the Atlantic ocean, there was a sculpture that was mounted in pieces. But when you looked at it from the designated viewing spot, it all came together as a rhino! So clever.
